Research And Markets Release HIV Vaccine Market And Pipeline Analysis

By Estel Grace Masangkay

Research firm Research and Markets has released its report “HIV Vaccine Market Opportunity & Clinical Pipeline Analysis” forecasting that pharmaceutical companies would focus more on development of a successful efficient vaccine to check the spread of HIV.

HIV remains as one of the greatest challenges to public health around the world. In spite of extensive prevention and treatment programs, AIDS is expected to take more lives than any other infectious disease in the future. UNAIDS states that deaths due to AIDS were estimated to be at 1.6 million in 2012. About 35.3 million people live today with HIV.

Given the prevalence and pace of the disease, HIV vaccines are considered to be the best solution to eradicate AIDS completely. In the report, Research and Markets forecasts that, “In the next 5-8 years, the pharmaceutical companies would focus more on the development of a successful efficient vaccine to control the spread of this disease. The allocation of resources should necessarily reflect ongoing, strategic prioritization of candidates in the pipeline. With the progress of trials and accumulation of information on the safety and efficacy of new products, there is an urgent demand for strategizing the product pipelines and the prioritization of the decisions. There needs to be complete scrutiny of every single technological area of HIV prevention R&D so as to reflect the best methods of channelizing the funds which are limited in nature. The funds need to be specifically directed towards only those products and approaches which have a high probability of succeeding, instead of those which are less promising.”

The report highlights key topics such as R&D funding scenario for HIV vaccine, market dynamics, FDA regulatory framework for development of HIV vaccine, and competitive landscape among others.

Companies mentioned in the report include:

  • Antigen Express
  • Bionor Pharma
  • FIT Biotech
  • GenVec
  • GeoVax
  • Glaxo Smithkline
  • Immune Response BioPharma
  • Inovio Pharmaceuticals
  • Novartis
  • Sanofi Pasteur
