Genentech Ranked 6th In Fortune 100 Best Companies To Work For® 2014
Leading biotech and pharma company Genentech has been named in Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For® 2014 for the 16th consecutive year. Genentech ranked 6th overall and joins the list with another pharma company Novo Nordisk (ranked 72nd).
The biotech giant has almost 12,000 employees and annual revenue of nearly $15,000 million. Genentech also received acknowledgment as a social media superstar this year for staying updated in innovative social media workplace trends. The company was acquired by Swiss company Roche Holding in 2009.
Employees said they were proud and fulfilled in doing their job to improve people’s lives while receiving generous work benefits. GreatRated quoted one employee as saying, “We all recognize that these products change lives - and it could be someone in our own family or ourselves… Such an attitude is energizing and empowering. Our jobs have great meaning to each of us.”

Ninety-four percent of employees say the company is a friendly workplace while ninety-eight percent say it fosters a safe work environment. The company matches employee’s donations to non-profits for up to $2,000 per year per employee. In 2012 alone, employees gave nearly $1 million in donations and volunteer time. The company also hosts an annual Genentech Gives Back Week to practice philanthropic work and community service.
Genentech has fostered a unique workplace culture with its company-wide celebration of successes, traditional Friday “Ho-Hos,” and annual concerts. Employees enjoy onsite child care, telecommuting, job sharing programs, and a six-week fully paid sabbatical for every six years of working for the company.
Genentech was also named on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2014 Corporate Equality Index (CEI) as one of the best places to work for LGBT Equality for the 8th consecutive year. The company also placed 25th in Glassdoor’s 50 Best Places to Work 2014.
