DCAT Announces Sharp Sourcing 2016, The Industry's Event For The Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Value Chain
What does it take to move Sourcing and Procurement Organizations to the next level? How can pharmaceutical companies, contract service providers, and suppliers collaborate for mutual long-term gain?
The answers to these questions will be addressed at DCAT Sharp Sourcing 2016, a conference and networking event that provides peer and customer insight on the best practices and practical ways for optimizing pharmaceutical manufacturing and supply networks. Presented by the Drug, Chemical & Associated Technologies Association (DCAT), the event is designed for senior to mid-level executives engaged in sourcing, procurement, supply management, and external manufacturing and their business counterparts on the supply side. It will be held Tuesday, July 12 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Developed by DCAT’s Supply Management Committee and the Education Committee’s Sharp Sourcing Supplier Program Task Force, this year’s event will feature specialized education forums for buyers and suppliers and joint sessions on supply chain optimization/CMO integration, right-first time metrics, and procurement analytics and supply risk management. The event will also feature a keynote address on how to foster innovation with your suppliers for a competitive advantage by award-winning entrepreneur and star of ABC’s Shark Tank Daymond John.
“For those of us engaged in the pharmaceutical manufacturing value chain, Sharp Sourcing is an excellent way to gain insight on the issues and challenges we face, but more importantly, to hear of solutions and best practices on how to resolve them, “says Sally Macaluso, Vice-President, Johnson & Johnson R&D Procurement and Chair of the DCAT Supply Management Committee. “The event brings together executives from leading pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies who share their perspectives and practical ways to optimize approaches in procurement and supply management, including how to collaborate more effectively with suppliers.”
To underscore that point, some speakers at DCAT Sharp Sourcing 2016 include:
- Robert P. Discordia, PhD, Executive Director, Global Procurement, Pharmaceutical Operations & Development, Bristol-Myers Squibb
- Pravin Khandare, PhD, Vice President, Janssen Supply Chain Procurement and Global API & Biologic Materials Category Leader, Janssen Supply Group, LLC, part of Johnson & Johnson
- Dave McCarthy, Senior Director, Pfizer Global Supply, Procurement, North America, Pfizer Inc.
- Lorraine McClain, Senior Director, Quality Risk Management, Teva Pharmaceuticals
- Stephen J. Fecho, Jr., Director, Global Supply Chain Management, Merck & Co., Inc.
- Michele Johnson, Head, ESO Procurement, Americas, Novartis Business Services

“Sharp Sourcing provides an unique forum for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies and suppliers of ingredients, development and manufacturing services, and related technologies to examine and discuss the issues of importance for the business of pharmaceutical development and manufacturing,” says Gavin Murdoch, Senior Director, Strategic Partnerships, Patheon, and Chair of the DCAT Education Committee. “For suppliers, it provides customer-centric insight focused specifically on the issues that impact our business relations and every-day work and for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies, invaluable peer insight. “
Of particular value are the Buyers’ and Suppliers’ Forums, specialized educational sessions that provide case studies and practical insight from leading pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies. The Buyers’ Forum will feature three topics with roundtable discussions: Procurement’s influence in specification management; sustainable procurement; and supplier metrics: going beyond scorecards. The Suppliers’ Forum will examine different aspects impacting supplier relationship management: (1) supplier consolidation: (2) managing an integrated supply chain and network integration; (3) strategic partnerships/collaboration, including supplier innovation; (4) inter-supply cooperation/management with raw material suppliers, CDMOs, CMOs; (5) managing working capital requirements.
