Article: Cold Chain Pharmaceuticals Worth Billions

Source: American Airlines Cargo

There is a growing global demand for increasingly complex drugs and pharmaceutical products, a market that will grow to U.S. $900B by 2012 and $1.2T by 2014.

25 percent of all healthcare products are temperature-sensitive, meaning they require refrigeration during transportation and storage. Further, these products sometimes have a short window of viability, which makes rapid transport essential. Moving these life-saving products to markets throughout the world requires cold-chain shipping, which keeps products at a consistent temperature from point of origin to final destination. Monitoring temperatures and maintaining the proper packaging environment during transport are critical to maintaining the viability of these high-value shipments.
