Outsourcing Against the Outbreak brings audiences candid video conversations with leading voices in infectious disease, global health, vaccine development, and biopharma. The series explores what it takes to move promising science into interventions that can be developed, manufactured, and delivered when and where they’re needed most. Topics range from technology transfer and manufacturing readiness to access planning, outbreak preparedness, licensing, and the external partnerships that help programs move forward. The goal is simple: uncover practical lessons from people working at the front lines of global health innovation and show how better collaboration can turn scientific progress into real-world impact.

Great Science Isn't Enough: Solving The Global Health Drug Development Equation
Designing infectious disease interventions for low- and middle-income countries requires solving for access, affordability, and delivery from day one rather than treating them as downstream afterthoughts. In this inaugural episode of Outsourcing Against the Outbreak, Dr. Krishnan Ramanathan, Interim CEO of the Gates Medical Research Institute (Gates MRI), explores how to navigate the unique economic and operational realities of global health...  Continue Reading..

MEET OUR HOST

Jeff is deputy chief editor of Outsourced Pharma, where he translates complex biology and manufacturing into practical guidance for drug sponsors navigating CDMO selection, tech transfer, analytics, and timelines. He holds a PhD in Molecular Cell Biology from Thomas Jefferson University and a BS in Biology from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. His editorials reflect two decades spanning bench science, publishing, and industry, and are written to help readers see both the big-picture dynamics and on-the-ground realities of outsourcing. Prior to Outsourced Pharma, Jeff served as the technical editor at Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology News (GEN), where he authored features and hosted GEN’s “GenCast” podcast series and managed multimedia initiatives at Mary Ann Liebert Publishing. Afterwards, he engaged audiences with his editorial leadership as Director of Content at SynBioBeta. Earlier in his career, he conducted postdoctoral research in molecular microbiology at Washington University in St. Louis, publishing on parasite invasion mechanisms, including a widely cited Toxoplasma gondii study on the rhomboid protease ROM4. These experiences inform his science-minded, operations-aware voice across the outsourcing lifecycle.
