World Courier Enhances Its Cold Chain Capabilities With New Conditioning Solution

World Courier’s Blast Conditioner expedites the conditioning process of phase-change material packs

As the demand for cold chain packaging and storage solutions increases, AmerisourceBergen’s World Courier developed a new solution—called a Blast Conditioner—which expedites the conditioning process of phase-change material (PCM) packs.

In fact, the Blast Conditioner significantly reduced the time it takes for PCMs to be fully ready to use for frozen (-20 °C) and refrigerated (2 – 8 °C) temperature ranges packaging.

  • The time to reach frozen temperature range dropped from 72 hours to about 6 to 8 hours
  • The time to reach refrigerated temperature range dropped from 48 hours to 3 to 4 hours

“As the pharmaceutical cold chain market experiences tremendous growth, we continue to develop solutions that enable us to support our partners’ unique needs and the growing demand for temperature-controlled logistics,” said Alex Vale, director of Cold Chain Packaging at World Courier. “This solution, which will be installed at facilities across our global network, will enable our teams to operate more efficiently, accelerating the time it takes us to prepare shipments of temperature sensitive products.”

World Courier has installed Blast Conditioners at 11 facilities across its global network, including a transport office in Japan. The Asia Pacific region represents the fastest-growing market for healthcare cold chain logistics services and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.87% between 2022 and 2027. World Courier, which has a presence in more than 50 countries, plans to install Blast Conditioners at 10 additional facilities by early 2023.

World Courier offers a robust portfolio of temperature-controlled solutions, including its next-generation passive solution, Cocoon, which uses a combination of honeycomb, vacuum-insulated panels and advanced PCMs to provide stable thermal protection for more than 120 hours across the main temperature ranges, including ambient, refrigerated and frozen.
