Photochemical bromination is an attractive, low‑cost, and greener alternative to conventional halogenation methods, yet traditional batch photoreactors suffer from poor light penetration, high energy consumption, and inconsistent product quality. This work presents the development of a first‑of‑its‑kind continuous flow photo reactor designed to overcome these limitations through an innovative circular, LED‑based architecture.

The reactor employs circularly sandwiched, low‑energy LEDs that provide uniform light intensity across the reaction channel, eliminating efficiency losses associated with conventional batch systems and Beer–Lambert attenuation effects. Its annular geometry ensures maximal light utilization while embedded heat sinks and adjustable wattage enable precise thermal and operational control. The modular design supports automation and scalability, achieving residence times as short as two minutes with high quantum efficiency.

With demonstrated throughput suitable for multi‑ton monthly production and straightforward scale‑up potential, this flow photoreactor illustrates how custom continuous processing solutions can dramatically enhance reaction speed, sustainability, and industrial viability of photochemical transformations.
