Chiral Products and Technologies: Chirotech

Source: Dr. Reddy's

Dr Reddy’s has been working in the area of pharmaceutical intermediates and active ingredients for more than 20 years.  The focus has been on technologies for preparing single enantiomer compounds with a particular emphasis on catalytic methods, both chemical and enzymatic.

Rather than force-fitting a single technology to our partner’s project, we strive to offer a chiral solution by utilizing the most appropriate tool in our many-faceted chiral toolbox. Furthermore, we are experts in the marriage of an enabling chiral step to traditional chemical development - thus fostering the establishment of the best overall scale-up route.

Chirotech is a Cambridge, UK based research and development organization which has been part of Dr Reddy’s since May 2008.  The technology and know-how within the team at Chirotech has considerable potential for pharmaceuticals from those in clinical development through to generics.

Chiral Products

RSMs and Intermediates

  • Utilizing a broad technology portfolio together with access to large scale cGMP and non-GMP facilities means that we are able to efficiently manufacture one of the largest ranges of chiral compounds in the industry. As well as customized intermediates we have developed a number of general chiral products types, including:
    • Amino Acids
    • Alcohols
    • Amines
    • Carboxylic Acids & Esters
    • Succinates
    • Aldehydes
    • Epoxides
    • Complex Multi-functional Carbocycles

Prostaglandins

  • Prostaglandins are complex and often highly active molecules requiring excellence in synthetic chemistry & purification and specialised manufacturing capabilities with high containment. Through the chemistry capabilities of CPS-Chirotech and the manufacturing experience of our Mirfield, UK facilities, we are able to assist fully in your clinical development and commercial manufacturing needs of synthetic prostaglandins.

Chiral Technologies

We have expertise in asymmetric hydrogenation with a portfolio of proprietary catalysts and experience in producing commercial quantities of pharmaceutical intermediates. The catalysts can selectively reduce a broad range of substrates very selectively and are complementary to biocatalysis.

  • Asymmetric Allylic Substitution
    • A truly enabling methodology, allowing a plethora of chiral molecules to be synthesized. CPS-Chirotech has developed many processes to useful synthetic intermediates utilizing the Trost technology.
  • Biocatalysis
    • Using biocatalysis for the development of scalable, economic processes used in the production of chiral intermediates and APIs spans more than 20 years.
  • Complex Synthesis
    • If you have difficult synthetic challenges and highly complex molecules, then our capabilities can provide you with a clear and sustainable advantage, through the development of refined and effective synthetic routes to complex molecules.
  • Hydroformylation
    • Our collection of proprietary catalysts enables a high degree of control over both the chemo and regioselectivity for the products formed and excellent enantioselectivities.  The technology has been practiced on scale, manufacturing tonne quantities of aldehyde intermediates, and downstream chemistry has been developed that allows for in-situ conversion to either chiral or achiral amines, alcohols or acids.
  • Hydrogenation
    • Our collection of proprietary asymmetric hydrogenation catalysts comprises both our own systems and several powerful in-licensed catalytic technologies. We have the ability to rapidly screen over 400 preformed catalysts for process development.
  • Phase Transfer Catalysis

One of the best known uses of this technology is for the preparation of amino acids via the C-alkylation of glycinate or alaninate imines, where a wide variety of alkylating agents can be tolerated
