In this study, Cholesterol was selected as the model active ingredient — a waxy, solid compound that presents considerable processing challenges similar to those encountered with many complex small-molecule APIs. To investigate process enhancement, varying concentrations of SYLOID® mesoporous silica were blended with Cholesterol prior to micronization using a jet mill. This approach enabled a detailed assessment of how mesoporous silica influences both the efficiency and quality of the micronization process.

The results revealed that even low-level additions of SYLOID® mesoporous silica led to notable improvements in run time, yield, and overall process consistency, demonstrating its potential to simplify and strengthen micronization workflows.
