Thermo Fisher continues to make progress on the expansion of its spray drying capabilities from pre-clinical through commercialization at its sites in Bend, Oregon and Florence, South Carolina. The $30 million dollar investment in the commercial spray drying capability in Florence will allow clients to scale up spray drying processes developed at the solubility center of excellence at Bend and enable commercial supply as products go to market. The ground work for the tank farm and the construction of the facility – which will feature two spray dryers, two vacuum dryers, a batch feed system and dedicated solvent tanks – remain on track. The capability will be available in Florence in Q3 2019.

This investment rounds out Thermo Fisher’s small molecule manufacturing capabilities with industry leading scientific and engineering expertise in spray drying thermodynamics, unprecedented access to scale and end-to-end integration with API, Drug Product Intermediate, and Finished Drug Product areas of the network.
