PCR Analysis System

The Light Cycler is an integrated system for PCR-analyses that performs 30 amplification cycles in less than 30 minutes. Using a built-in microvolume fluorimeter and specially developed fluorescent dyes, the amplification products are quantified every cycle in 20 msec per capillary. The data are immediately transferred to a PC that allows monitoring of PCR kinetics on-line in real-time. In this system, amplification and quantification occurs in a tightly closed glass capillary that never needs to be opened, eliminating contamination risks.

In addition, on-line detection with this unit replaces conventional post PCR processing and its multiple handling steps. It is not limited to amplification, measurement of PCR-kinetics, and quantitation, but can do more sophisticated analyses, like the determination of melting curves and the detection of mutations.
